Heels Hold Rare Thursday Scrimmage

Chapel Hill, NC -- The North Carolina Tar Heels held a rare Thursday scrimmage as the Navy Squad defeated Blue 7-5 at Boshamer Stadium. The Heels scrimmaged on Thursday due to an uncertain weekend weather forecast.
Vance Honeycutt scored on a fielder's choice to put Navy up 1-0 in the top of the first. Navy picked up another run on Bryce Blaser's sacrifice fly to center in the second. Blue cut the lead to 2-1 in the third when Dylan King scored on a throwing error.
Navy picked up three runs in the top of the fifth. Honeycutt scored on an error, then Max Riemer and Joe Jaconski added RBI-singles for a 5-1 lead. Blue cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning on Hunter Stokely's two-run double to right center.
Navy picked up two more runs in the sixth on an Eric Grintz run-scoring double to left and Riemer's RBI-single to right. Blue picked up the final two runs of the scrimmage in the eighth. Austin Hawke scored on an error before Dylan King laid down a nice bunt on a safety squeeze that plated Colby Wilkerson.
Max Riemer was 3-5 with two RBI. Dylan King was 2-4 with a double, Joe Jaconski was 2-4 with one RBI and Mac Horvath was 2-4. Carter French, Hunter Stokely, Eric Grintz and Austin Hawke each had a double.
Max Carlson and Kevin Eaise were the two starters with Kyle Percival, Nik Pry, Cameron Padgett, Ben Peterson, Nelson Berkwich, Matthew Matthijs and Will Simmons throwing in relief. Eaise gave up one run in 4.0 innings while striking out three. Pry retired the side in his one inning on the mound.
The next scrimmage is TBD due to weather concerns.
