CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – All eyes will be on Sunday's top-5 showdown between No. 1 University of North Carolina and No. 3 Northwestern in what's considered the women's lacrosse game of the week.

The rematch of last year's epic NCAA semifinal will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. CT) at Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston, Illinois. The contest will be aired on ESPNU with Sheehan Stanwick Burch and Jay Alter on call.

won 47 consecutive regular season games, the second longest streak in NCAA history
won 29 games in a row, setting a new program record for longest win streak
won 20 consecutive road games (excluding neutral site games)
defeated three top-10 teams by a combined 23 goals this season
gone 20-0 vs. ranked teams since Feb. 12, 2022, including 6-0 against top-5 foes
scored double-figure goals for 64 times in its last 66 games
won 56 of its last 57 games, and 64 of its last 66

It's a quick turnaround for the top-ranked Tar Heels, who recently took care of business in a 20-7 win at Louisville on March 16. Reilly Casey (four goals, three assists) and Caitlyn Wurzburger (five goals, two assists) both had seven points; It was a career-high for Casey while Wurzburger matched hers. Nine different players scored at least once.

UNC's stalwart defense, which has limited its opponents to only 7.14 goals per game, kept UofL scoreless during the final quarter and only allowed two goals during the second half. Anchoring the back line is Alecia Nicholas, who owns a .558 save percentage between the pipes.

This will be the 25th all-time meeting between North Carolina and Northwestern with UNC holding a narrow 13-11 lead in the series. Having won the last eight, the Tar Heels are 9-1 in the last 10 games.

Sunday will be a rematch of the 2022 national semifinal in which Carolina overcame a seven-goal deficit to secure a 15-14 victory, ultimately going on to win its third national title in program history. Wurzburger had two goals during that game.
