March 21, 2023 | Field Hockey
Four Tar Heels have been named to the 18-player women's field hockey U.S. Under-21 squad for the Junior Pan American Championships, USA Field Hockey announced on Tuesday. Charly Bruder, Katie Dixon, Ryleigh Heck and Kiersten Thomassey were selected to represent the U.S. in the event April 10-18 in St. Michael, Barbados.
Â
U21 head coach Tracey Paul named the squad following a training camp in Charlotte March 17-19.
Â
"Our 2023 U-21 squad is a very strong group, so selecting just 18 of them was quite a challenge," Paul said. "We just had a very productive training camp in Charlotte, where we had the opportunity to scrimmage the senior team. It is very impressive how focused and committed the entire squad is to our performance objectives. We are in a challenging three team pool [at the Junior Pan American Championships], however, I feel very confident these young women will do the necessary work between now and then to be fully prepared to achieve success and qualify for the Junior World Cup."

The top three teams at JPAC will earn spots in the 2023 FIH Junior Hockey World Cup, set for Dec. 6-17 in Santiago, Chile.
