Softball Sweeps Home Doubleheader Over Pitt

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (17-24, 6-8 ACC) swept its doubleheader with Pitt on Sunday at Anderson Stadium, earning the team's first conference doubleheader sweep since 2019 against Virginia. The Tar Heels took game one 10-6 before earning a 3-0 victory in game two.
Lilli Backes, who threw over 200 pitches, earned back-to-back victories in the circle and recorded her third complete-game victory of the season. In her 12.1 innings pitched, the sophomore lefty tallied 11 strikeouts.
Abby Settlemyre hit a team-best .714 on the day, going 5-of-7 at the plate with two RBIs. For the second straight game and fourth time this season, Isabela Emerling hit a home run, finishing the day hitting .500 with a pair of hits and a team-best four RBIs.
Carolina outscored Pitt 13 to 6 and outhit the Panthers 16 to 11.
Notables:
The Tar Heels return to Anderson Stadium from April 14-16 to host Syracuse.

- Settlemyre is the third Tar Heel to record four hits in a game this season: Alex Brown vs. Virginia (April 2), Isabela Emerling vs. Duke (March 17)
- Skyler Brooks, who had a pair of stolen bases, is now 11-11 in stolen base attempts this season
- After going eight games without a home run, Carolina has hit atleast one home run in each of the last three games, combining for a total of six, two from Carlie Myrtle, two from Emerling and one each from Kiersten Licea and Alex Brown
- Settlemyre is now hitting a team-best .500 in conference play this season
- Destiny Middleton hit her first sacrifice fly of the season to plate Settlemyre
- In game one, the Tar Heels tallied 13 hits as a team, the ninth time this season that Carolina has had double-digit hits. The Tar Heels also plated 10 runs, the third time this season, and first time since Feb. 21 against NCCU, that Carolina has plated double-digit runs in a game
The Tar Heels return to Anderson Stadium from April 14-16 to host Syracuse.
