CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Logan Jordan was hit by Matt Poston's pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, and No. 13 Campbell edged North Carolina 6-5 at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday night.
Â
Bryce Arnold doubled to lead off the ninth, and Tyler Halstead followed with a bunt single. Drake Pierson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, bringing Jordan to the plate.
Â
"He's battling and giving everything he's got," UNC catcher Tomas Frick said of his battery mate. "Those two just got away from him."
Â
Campbell (32-10) threatened to score multiple runs in the ninth, but Halstead was thrown out at home, and Harris was caught stealing home as Drew Winters struck out.
Â
UNC (28-17) put two runners on in the ninth, but Aaron Rund induced a game-ending double play.
Â
Hunter Stokely tied the game with a two-run single in the third, and Frick followed with a two-run home run off pitcher Cade Boxrunner to put UNC ahead 5-3.
Â
"I felt like we did enough to win that game 5-3," UNC head coach Scott Forbes said. "We've got to hold them off in some way, shape, or form."
Â
Freshman Carter French, who made his first start, drove in the Tar Heels' other run with a second-inning single.
Â
Winters hit a two-run shot in the second, and Jordan had an RBI single in the third before Arnold hit his 15th home run of the season with a two-run drive in the seventh.
Â
Winter, Halstead, and Lawson Harrill each had two hits for the Camels, and Frick collected two of the Tar Heels' seven hits.
Â
Ty Cummings (3-1) struck out three in 2.2 innings pitched, and Rund earned his fifth save.Â
Â
"They threw good arms at us," Forbes said. "This is one of the better teams they've had, especially on the mound talking to [Campbell] Coach [Justin] Haire about it. All their guys had strikeout stuff, and they made some pretty good pitches."
Â
Poston (2-2) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout and two hit batters in 2.0 innings.
