Gallen Selected To MLB All-Star Game

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Former Tar Heels' and current Arizona Diamondbacks' pitcher Zac Gallen was selected for his first MLB All-Star Game on Sunday night as the rosters for the 2023 Mid-Summer Classic were revealed.
Gallen is the 10th former Tar Heel to be named to an All-Star game roster and first since Andrew Miller in 2017.
In 17 starts this season, Gallen is 10-3 with a 3.15 ERA for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is tied for the National League lead in wins and leads the NL in WHIP (0.913), fewest hits per nine innings (6.918), fewest walks per nine innings (1.859) and innings pitched (111.1).
Gallen, who finished fifth in voting for the 2022 National League Cy Young Award, currently ranks sixth on the senior circuit in ERA after ranking fourth a year ago (2.54).
The New Jersey native earned All-ACC honors as a sophomore and junior at UNC in 2015 and 2016. He posted a combined 2.73 ERA in his final two seasons in Chapel Hill with 169 strikeouts against 40 walks in 174 2/3 innings pitched.
Gallen was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Miami Marlins following the 2017 season before being dealt to Arizona in 2019.
The 2023 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for July 11 in Seattle at 8 p.m. and will be televised on FOX.
