CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Chloe Humphrey, an incoming freshman on the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team, has been named the 2023 USA TODAY High School Sports Awards National Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.
Tabbed as the top recruit in her class, Humphrey was also chosen as the USA Lacrosse High School Girls Player of the Year in June.
A recent graduate of Darien High School in Darien, Connecticut, she led the Blue Wave to its first unbeaten season in program history and the No. 1 ranking in the final Nike/USA Lacrosse national top-25 poll.
Humphrey scored on a staggering 72 percent of her shots this past spring and netted the game-winner in the state championship. The attacker tallied 103 goals during her senior campaign, also recording 38 assists, 30 caused turnovers, 42 ground balls and 69 draw controls.Â
In total, she accumulated 209 goals, 80 assists, 289 points, 62 caused turnovers, 77 ground balls and 99 draw controls during her standout four-year career at Darien.Â
The soon-to-be Tar Heel also garnered the honors of USA Lacrosse Northeast Girls Player of the Year and Connecticut Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year. She is a two-time USA Lacrosse All-American, All-State First Team selection and All-FCIAC First Team pick.
Humphrey recently earned a spot on the U.S. Women's U20 National Training Team for a chance to represent Team USA at the World Lacrosse Women's U20 Championship in Hong Kong next summer.
Last weekend, she was one of three incoming UNC rookies to compete in the New Balance Senior All-American game in Baltimore, Maryland.
