How It Happened
- It was back and forth between the Tar Heels and Hokies at the start, with the visiting team holding an 8-4 edge in shots in the first half.
- North Carolina's best scoring chance came in the 40th minute when Mia Oliaro's shot forced a diving save from Virginia Tech keeper Alia Skinner.
- Emmie Allen made two crucial saves between the posts as both teams went into the break scoreless.
- The second half was all Carolina, which out-shot Virginia Tech 13-0 during the final 45 minutes, including 5-0 on target.
- Carolina got on the board in the 67th minute when Skinner initially made a stop off a long strike from Emily Moxley before the ball slipped from her gloves. This allowed Shores to take a left-footed shot from the center of the box that sailed between the keeper's legs for the third goal of her career, just 32 seconds after subbing in.
- UNC continued pressing after its go-ahead goal, but attempts from Sam Meza, Avery Patterson and Tori Dellaperuta were all stopped by the Hokie keeper.
- Carolina, which finished with a 17-8 edge in shots, held Virginia Tech shotless during the final 45 minutes. It was the fourth time this year UNC has kept an opponent shotless during a half.
- Dellaperuta and Shores both had a game-high two shots on frame, contributing to UNC's seven total to VT's two.
- Allen concluded the match with two saves and was credited with her fourth shutout of the season.
