Men's Tennis Announces 2024 Schedule

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.—Continuing a longtime tradition, the University of North Carolina's men's tennis team again will play one of the nation's top schedules in 2024, head coach Sam Paul announced on Wednesday.
Eight Tar Heel opponents were ranked in the preseason ITA Top 25, released earlier on Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Five Atlantic Coast Conference opponents earned spots in the ITA Preseason Top 25, including No. 1 Virginia, No. 8 Duke, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 20 Florida State and No. 21 NC State. Three ranked non-conference opponents include No. 12 Columbia, No. 18 Georgia and No. 23 Florida (a potential opponent in the ITA Kickoff Weekend).
Ten of UNC's 2024 opponents earned spots in last year's NCAA Championship, including Illinois (whom the Tar Heels will play twice this season).
Carolina will open its season on January 13-15 at the Tar Heel Invitational at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill. After the warmup weekend of non-team competition, the dual match season will begin at home on January 18 with a doubleheader against Campbell and NC Central.
A road trip to Columbia follows on January 21 before the Tar Heels host a talented field in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 27-28. UNC will play Illinois in Saturday's semifinal and then meet either Wake Forest or Florida on Sunday.
More stiff competition is up again the next weekend, with the Tar Heels visiting Illinois on February 3 in their second road match of the season.
After a home match against Elon on February 8, Georgia will visit Chapel Hill for a huge match on Sunday February 11. The ITA National Team Indoor Championship will be in Flushing Meadow, N.Y., on February 16-19. Carolina is a two-time winner of the event (2016 and 2021).
After a final non-conference tuneup against Furman on February 26, the Atlantic Coast Conference slate begins on March 1 and 3 in Chapel Hill against Georgia Tech and Clemson, respectively.
Carolina will host Georgia Tech, Clemson, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Louisville at home this spring while visiting Florida State, Miami, Boston College, Duke, NC State and Wake Forest on the road in ACC action.
