Six Tar Heels Get Spots On U.S. Roster For IWLCA Presidents Cup
November 7, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – USA Lacrosse has announced the roster that will compete with the U.S. Women's Senior National Team during the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Presidents Cup from Nov. 22-24 in Florida. Six former North Carolina standouts were named to the 44-person roster.
Those former Tar Heels include Ally Mastroianni ('21), current assistant coach Marie McCool ('18), Taylor Moreno ('21), Emily Nalls ('23), Caylee Waters ('17) and Kayla Wood ('21). Carolina's six players are the second most of any school in the country.
The IWLCA Presidents Cup, one of the nation's most prominent recruiting events, includes more than 400 teams featuring some of the top high school players in the country. The USA is building towards the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship that will be held in Japan.
The U.S. will hold a Blue-White exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. ET at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., followed by a public autograph session. They will then scrimmage Boston College the following day on Nov. 24 at 12:30 p.m., also at the Premier Sports Campus. Admission to both games is free of charge.
Mastroianni, McCool and Waters earned gold at the 2022 World Championship with McCool also helping the stars and stripes win the event in 2017. Mastroianni, Moreno and Wood made history earlier this fall by winning the inaugural World Box Championship.
All six Tar Heels who will represent Team USA in Florida competed in Season Four of Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse this past summer. Nalls was named the AU Defender of the Year after a sensational rookie campaign. Mastroianni (No. 4) and Moreno (No. 5) both finished on the leaderboard's top five.
