Three Tar Heels Honored As United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region
December 3, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three members of the North Carolina women's soccer team have earned All-Atlantic Region honors, as announced by United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday ahead of the NCAA College Cup. This is the 10th year in a row the Tar Heels have had at least three all-region honorees.
Trinity Armstrong and Kate Faasse were named to the First Team while Tessa Dellarose landed on the Second Team. Armstrong is the first Tar Heel rookie on the first team since Maycee Bell in 2019.
Despite only being in her freshman year, Armstrong has continued to show why she is regarded as one of the best defenders in the country. She has anchored UNC's back line which has kept its opponents to 7.7 shots per game and 3.8 shots on goal per game. Her first collegiate goal was the game-winner in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
Armstrong – who earned bronze with the U.S. at the FIFA U17 World Cup earlier this fall – was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24, the only true freshman to win the honor this year. She was also tabbed to both the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Freshman Team, becoming the first Tar Heel to be named to the First Team and Freshman Team since 2017.
Faasse is in the midst of a breakout junior season, as the forward is tied for first in both the ACC and NCAA with 19 goals. Her 41 points also lead the conference and ranks fourth in the country. She has seven game-winning goals – including the golden goal in the NCAA Quarterfinals – which ranks first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA.
Having started in all 25 games thus far, Faasse also has five braces on the season. She is one of just three Tar Heels in the last decade to have three or more in a single season, and she has the most goals (19) and points (41) by a UNC player since 2008. Faasse was named to the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Tournament Team.
One of this year's co-captains, Dellarose has started every match and has four goals and 15 points in addition to a team-leading seven assists. The midfielder netted her third game-winning goal in the NCAA Second Round against Santa Clara and leads all field players with 2,129 minutes as the only player with 16 games of a full 90+ minutes.
Dellarose was selected to the All-ACC Third Team as well as the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for her efforts in the classroom. She has twice been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
The Tar Heels advanced to their 32nd College Cup in program history – 18 more than any other school. They will take on Duke in the national semifinals on Friday, Dec. 6, at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
