Rueda Named ACC Newcomer Of The Week
February 12, 2024 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Camryn Rueda has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Newcomer of the Week following her impressive performance last night, as announced by the conference on Monday.
With 2024 marking the inaugural season for women's gymnastics in the ACC, Rueda becomes the first gymnast in program history to receive the league's newcomer-of-the-week award.
The Tar Heels have now earned a weekly award from the conference three times as Lali Dekanoidze was named the first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 9 and Isabelle Schaefer was tabbed Specialist of the Week on Jan. 15.
A native of Salem, New Hampshire, Rueda garnered the accolade after posting a career-high 9.875 on floor at NC State to tie for second overall. Her score obliterated her previous career best of 9.725.
Not only was Rueda's 9.875 the highest score on floor among all conference freshmen in week six, it was the highest score recorded on any event by any ACC rookie. She also had the second-highest score posted among all ACC gymnasts on floor last week.
Rueda and the Tar Heels return to action on Friday, Feb. 16, hosting Pitt in a nationally-televised meet on ACC Network. Competition will begin at 7:15 p.m. ET inside Carmichael Arena with tickets available for purchase here.
