UNC V8 Named ACC Crew Of The Week
April 16, 2024 | Women's Rowing
UNC's varsity eight has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Crew of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. The Tar Heels are coming off a weekend in which they won the Class of 2006 Cup in head-to-head racing against Georgetown on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C.
Â
At the GW Invitational, which was shortened due to windy conditions, the Tar Heels finished second to the host Revolutionaries on Friday afternoon then came up with the big win over the Hoyas on Saturday in a time of 6:06.5.
Â
Carolina's varsity eight was made up of Alix de Saint-Aignan (coxswain, Newton, Mass.), Claudia Quintaba (Cincinnati, Ohio), Evie Wells (Boston, Mass.), Molly Warden (Winnetka, Ill.), Cam Howard (Fuquay Varina, N.C.), Maddie Johnson (Wayne, Pa.), Mimi Brown (Saint Simons Island, Ga.), Natalie Timinskas (Raleigh, N.C.), Carmen Sagues (Ross, Calif.)
Â
"These guys attacked and showed excellent composure this weekend in the conditions, and against a good Georgetown team," UNC coach Erin Neppel said. "They have also learned and grown a lot so far this spring and have been coming together more and more each week. I think it was another step in the right direction for this crew and team as a whole."
Â
UNC closes out the regular season at the Lake Wheeler Invitational April 26 and 27 in Raleigh. That's also the site of the ACC Championship on May 17 and 18.
