Duke Tops Men's Tennis In ACC Quarterfinal, 4-0
April 19, 2024 | Men's Tennis
CARY, N.C.— Fourth-seeded Duke won a tight doubles point and went on to defeat fifth-seeded North Carolina, 4-0, on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at the Cary Tennis Park.
Carolina had early advantages in all three doubles matches before the Blue Devils rallied at the No. 2 and No. 1 slots to capture the doubles point. Duke then picked up singles wins at No. 5, No. 1 and No. 2 for the team win.
With the victory, the 12th-ranked Blue Devils (18-8) advanced to Saturday's semifinals, where it will play top-seeded Virginia at 10 a.m. in Cary. The Tar Heels, ranked No. 28 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, dropped to 14-9 this season.
Carolina now awaits word on its NCAA Tournament destination. The Tar Heels have made 31 NCAA Tournament appearances, including nine in a row (the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
