DeCaro Named ACC Pitcher Of The Week
April 29, 2024 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman Jason DeCaro has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. He is the first Tar Heel pitcher to win the award since Austin Love earned it twice in 2021 and the first UNC freshman to receive the accolade since 2017.
DeCaro struck out a career-best eight batters and tossed seven shutout innings in the series opener against Virginia Tech. He retired the first 11 men he faced before allowing a hit. He scattered four hits and issued two walks during the longest outing of his UNC career, throwing a career-high 105 five pitches.
DeCaro didn't allow the Hokies, who averaged nearly nine runs per game, to get a runner past second base. He currently ranks eighth in the ACC with a 3.86 ERA.
The No. 12 Tar Heels (33-11) will host Charlotte at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday, April 30. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised on ACC Network. It will also be streamed on the ESPN app. Radio coverage will be available locally on WCHL (97.9 FM/1360 AM) and free live audio at goheels.com.
