Pair Of Midweek Games On Tap For No. 12 Baseball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With final exams beginning later this week, No. 12 North Carolina will host a pair of midweek games at Boshamer Stadium before focusing on academics.Â
The Tar Heels will host Charlotte on Tuesday (April 30) at 7 p.m., and welcome William & Mary to town on Wednesday (May 1) at 6 p.m.
Carolina is coming off a 2-1 series win against Virginia Tech over the weekend. The Tar Heels won games one and two before coming up just one run short of completing the sweep in the finale. UNC hurlers compiled a 2.67 ERA over the weekend with 30 strikeouts in 27.0 innings pitched.
Charlotte (20-24) lost two of three at UAB over the weekend, while William & Mary (26-18) dropped two of three at home to UNCW.
The Tar Heels won both games against the 49ers last season and lead the all-time series, 37-8-1. Carolina is 22-4-1 at Boshamer Stadium against Charlotte.
UNC played its first game against William & Mary in 1907 and has amassed a 14-2 record against the Tribe. Wednesday's game will be the first in the series since 2016. Each game in the series, except the 2008 match-up in Cary, has been played in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels moved up in each of the five major polls this week, sitting 12th in D1 Baseball, Perfect Game, and the USA Today Sports Coaches poll. Baseball America ranked UNC No. 7, and the NCBWA had Carolina No. 9 in its poll.
DECARO COLLECTS ACC HONOR
Freshman Jason DeCaro was named ACC Pitcher of the Week on Monday. He is the first Tar Heel pitcher to win the award since Austin Love earned it twice in 2021 and the first UNC freshman to receive the accolade since 2017. DeCaro struck out a career-best eight batters and tossed seven shutout innings in the series opener against Virginia Tech. He retired the first 11 men he faced before allowing a hit. He scattered four hits and issued two walks during the longest outing of his UNC career, throwing a career-high 105 five pitches.
PITCHERS BRINGING THE HEAT
Carolina pitchers combined to post a 2.50 ERA in four games last week, striking out 40 batters in 36.0 innings pitched and walking nine. UNC hurlers held opposing batters to a .226 clip. Dalton Pence struck out nine batters in 5.1 innings without issuing a walk. Matthew Matthijs had six strikeouts in four innings.
SPLENDID D
The Carolina defense has been superb in the last 12 games, committing just two errors in 405 chances (.995). UNC didn't commit an error in the NC State or Virginia Tech series and has made just one error in its last nine ACC games.
DOUBLE QUARTER
Parks Harber is one home run shy of 50 for his career. He hit 34 during his first three seasons at the University of Georgia and has belted 15 in 44 games with the Tar Heels. He ranks ninth in the ACC in home runs, eighth in slugging percentage (.699), and 13th in RBIs (45).
LEAGUE LEADERS
Four Tar Heels rank at the top of numerous statistical categories in the ACC. Vance Honeycutt leads the conference in stolen bases (26) and runs (59), Anthony Donofrio has an ACC-best six triples, Shea Sprague has the lowest walks allowed per nine innings rate (1.61) and Matthew Matthijs has a league-high 11 wins and 26 pitching appearances.
