UNC Wraps Up Season At ACC Rowing Championship
May 18, 2024 | Women's Rowing
RALEIGH, N.C. – UNC finished seventh overall and capped the morning with wins in the varsity eight and second varsity eight petite finals on Saturday at the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championships at Lake Wheeler.
Â
The Tar Heels raced in three grand finals – varsity four, second varsity four and third varsity eight – on Saturday as the two-day event wrapped up with Syracuse as the ACC Champion after winning a tie-breaker with Virginia.
Â
"It was a solid way to end the season for this team," UNC coach Erin Neppel said. "Having three crews in the grands was good, and for the V8 and 2V8, they did what they needed to do winning their petites today, and raced them well. We talked about it being a jumping-off place to take us through the summer and into next year. If we want to keep this ball rolling, the team knows what they need to do over the next couple months.
Â
"The ACC keeps getting better, so congrats to all the teams. Everyone is leveling up and it's fun to be a part of it."
Â
The third varsity eight was the first Carolina boat in action, taking sixth in the grand final with a time of 6:56.071. The second varsity four was also sixth in its grand final in 7:366.136. The varsity four took sixth as well, crossing in 7:27.080 in its grand final.
Â
The Tar Heels closed out the morning with wins in both of its petite finals, the second varsity eight in 6:39.946 and varsity eight in 6:28.768.
Â
Junior Madelaine Johnson was named to the All-ACC second team at the conclusion of the event.
