Pro Heels: NWSL Week Nine Roundup

The ninth week of the 2024 National Women's Soccer League season was highlighted by Brianna Pinto recording the game-winning assist for North Carolina Courage.
Also of note for the professional Tar Heels – Lotte Wubben-Moy, center back for Arsenal, was named the 2023-24 Player of the Season. Her teammate, forward Alessia Russo, was voted third.Â
Bay FC

Bay FC defeated San Diego Wave, 2-1. King was once again part of the Starting XI and logged 90 minutes. Bailey entered the match at the 69th minute.Â
NJ/NY Gotham FC

» Crystal Dunn (2010-13)
Gotham FC secured a 2-1 win over Chicago Red Stars. Bell earned her second straight start and logged 82 minutes. Dunn subbed in during the 66th minute.Â
Regarding Bell, Gotham head coach Juan Carlos Amoros said, "...and I think the job of Maycee Bell on Mallory Swanson tonight was something remarkable for a rookie in her second start. Being given the responsibility to mark one of the best players not only in the league but in the world and did what she did was amazing."Â
Houston Dash

Houston Dash fell to Portland Thorns, 2-0. Both Nielsen and Patterson started and saw every minute on the pitch.Â
North Carolina Courage

North Carolina Courage defeated Utah Royals, 1-0, at home. Pinto, who earned a spot in the starting lineup and logged 80 minutes, had what proved to be the game-winning assist. A low cross into the box found Pinto, and her solitary touch found Kaleigh Kurtz who scored.

Portland Thorns picked up a 2-0 win over Houston Dash for their sixth consecutive victory. Klingenberg subbed in for the final three minutes of added time.Â
