
Dellarose Named MVP, US Women Win TST 2024

CARY, N.C. – Recent North Carolina women's soccer graduate Talia Dellaperuta scored the game-winning goal to seal a victory – and a $1 million prize – for US Women at The Soccer Tournament, capping off an exciting week of soccer in Cary.Â
Rising junior Tessa Dellarose was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while Lindsey Harris received the Golden Glove Award. Dellarose, Kealia Ohai Watt, Kendall Fletcher White (coach) and Heather O'Reilly (GM) were named to the TST 2024 'Best 7' squad.
Several former and current Tar Heels were on the winning US Women's squad: Mia Hamm, O'Reilly, Alex Kimball, Carla Overbeck, Casey Loyd, Cat Whitehill, Dellarose, Tori Dellaperuta, Ta. Dellaperuta, Allie Long, Bella Sember, Kacey White, Fletcher White, Lindsey Harris and Lori Chalupny.
A total of 20 former and current Tar Heels took part in TST 2024: Mia Hamm (US Women), O'Reilly (US Women), Alex Kimball (US Women), Carla Overbeck (US Women), Casey Loyd (US Women), Cat Whitehill (US Women), Dellarose (US Women), Tori Dellaperuta (US Women), Ta. Dellaperuta (US Women), Allie Long (US Women), Bella Sember (US Women), Kacey White (US Women), Fletcher White (US Women), Harris (US Women), Lori Chalupny (US Women), Ohai Watt (Burnley FC), Alexa Newfield (Burnley FC), Anna Sieloff (Burnley FC), Amber Brooks (Burnley FC), Adelaide Gay (SoccerHead FC), Rachel Wood (SoccerHead FC) and Jessica McDonald (NC Courage).
The US Women defeated NC Courage, 6-3, in the championship to take home the inaugural women's TST title and $1 million prize. In the group stage, the US Women totaled a 2-1 ledger to advance to the semifinals where it posted a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay Sun FC.Â
TST 2024, which took place June 5-10, was held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Building off last year's initial men's-only event, TST expanded this year to include the inaugural women's tournament which had an equal $1 million prize.
The winner-take-all tournament featured 48 men's teams and eight women's teams. Using a 7-on-7 format, the men's and women's squads competed in separate World Cup style tournaments consisting of group play and single-elimination knockout rounds. In total, 156 matches were played.
