Freshman Duo Selected For USA Baseball Training Camp

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC freshmen Jason DeCaro and Luke Stevenson have been invited to the 2024 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.
The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp will feature 56 of the premier non-draft-eligible college players for a two-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in Cary, N.C., on June 26 and 27.
USA Baseball will name the final Collegiate National Team – inclusive of an International Friendship Series roster and a Summer League Tour roster – following Training Camp on June 29.
The International Friendship Series roster will then take on Chinese Taipei in a five-game series, while the Summer League Tour roster will take on select teams from the Appalachian League and the Coastal Plain League in a four-game slate. The schedule will culminate with a Fourth of July match-up between the two U.S. Collegiate National Team rosters on July 4 in Fayetteville, N.C.
DeCaro and Stevenson had outstanding rookie seasons for the Tar Heels, earning Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-America accolades and All-ACC honors.
DeCaro was named Second Team All-ACC in addition to being selected to the league's all-freshman team. He finished among the top five in the ACC in ERA (3.81), opposing batting average (.221), innings pitched (89.2), fewest hits allowed per nine innings (7.43) and batters struck out looking (25). DeCaro made 18 starts and posted a 6-1 record with a 1.32 WHIP.
An All-ACC Third Team and Freshman Team catcher, Stevenson registered a .284 batting average with 14 home runs and 58 RBIs. He started 63 of 64 games behind the plate and drew a team-high 48 walks. Stevenson compiled a .955 OPS, the fifth-highest on the team.
