Two Tar Heels Earn All-America Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A pair of UNC baseball players received All-America honors Friday morning. Junior outfielder Vance Honeycutt was named Second Team All-America by Baseball America, while redshirt sophomore relief pitcher Dalton Pence was named Third Team.
This is Honeycutt's fourth All-America honor of the season. He was named First Team All-America by Perfect Game and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Second Team All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Pence was selected Second Team All-America by Perfect Game.
A native of Salisbury, N.C., Honeycutt slashed .318/.410/.715 with a school record 28 home runs, 70 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. He tied for the ACC lead in home runs and ranked sixth nationally. Honeycutt also led the ACC in runs with a program record 88, third-most in Division I.
The 2024 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winner and ACC Defensive Player of the Year put up career-highs in batting average (.318), hits (81), doubles (13), RBIs, and slugging percentage (.714).
Honeycutt completed the season with 65 career home runs, tops in program history.
Pence posted a 5-1 record with eight saves in an ACC-best 36 appearances. He finished third in the ACC in saves. He compiled 74 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .189 batting average.
Pence opened the season by throwing 14 1/3 scoreless innings with 21 strikeouts. He surrendered just one hit in 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts in two games against LSU in the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional and was named to the all-tournament team.
He averaged 11.35 strikeouts per nine innings with a 2.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
