Swimmers Have Strong Showing At U.S. Olympic Trials

INDIANAPOLIS — This past week, eight UNC swimmers competed in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, testing themselves against the best swimmers from across the country.
A rising senior from San Jose, Calif., Skyler Smith finished 12th in the women's 100 breast preliminaries with a time of 1:08.48 to advance to the semifinals. She shaved 0.38 seconds off in the semis for a 1:08.10, placing ninth and missing a spot in the finals by a mere 0.27.
The UNC women concluded the meet with rising junior Aislin Farris, recording a new personal best time of 2:13.42 in the 200 back to finish 30th.
Recent graduate Lexi Rudolph placed 35th in the 100 breast (1:10.30) and fellow graduate Ellie VanNote finished 48th in the 100 fly (1:00.31).
On the men's side, rising sophomore Ben Delmar posted the top finish for the UNC men's team, advancing to the 200 breast semifinals and placing 12th with school-record time and personal-best time of 2:11.83. Delmar also finished among the top 30 in the 100 breast, placing 27th, with his personal-best time of 1:01.26.
Rising sophomore Carter Freudenstein is another Tar Heel who posted a personal-best mark, completing the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.87 to place 48th.
The men's team was also represented by Colin Whelehan, who finished 47th in the 200 fly (2:01.52) and Boyd Poelke, who finished 50th in the 100 fly (53.72).
Incoming freshmen James Bennison, PJ Foy, Emma Sayers, Sean Setzer and JT Schmid also competed in the trials.
