July 11, 2024 | Baseball
UNC rising sophomore Luke Stevenson spent over a week at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary as a part of the organization's Summer Tour team. The tour took the team to Johnson City, Tenn., and Pulaski, Va., for a pair of games against the Appalachian League select teams while also playing two games at the USA Baseball National Training Complex against the Coastal Plain League Select Team.
The Summer Tour squad also played against the International Series team at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville.
Q: What did it mean to you to be able to wear the Star & Stripes?
A: It was an honor. It's something I've dreamed of doing since I was a little kid. I have always wanted to play on Team USA, wear the Team USA jersey, and represent my country. It was a dream come true.
Q: How was your experience during Training Camp fighting to earn a roster spot?
A: It was cool being there with the country's best players and some great coaches. I learned a ton; wearing that USA jersey was a cool experience.
Q: How was your experience with this year's travel team playing against the CPL and Appalachian League select teams?
A: Those games were really fun. There were a lot of good players, and it was fun to catch and play some extra games.
Q: What was it like catching two of your UNC teammates wearing a USA jersey?
A: That was awesome. Being able to catch DeCaro and Matty was really cool. We had a great time together. It was cool that the three of us were able to spend the week there.
Q: What was your favorite memory of the tour?
A: Catching DeCaro and Matty. It was also cool to meet a lot of the guys I faced during the season, and get to know them.
