Honeycutt Named CSC First Team Academic All-America
July 2, 2024 | Baseball, Academics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC junior outfielder Vance Honeycutt has been named First Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Honeycutt is the fifth UNC baseball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors and the first since Benton Moss in 2015.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America Award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). They must have reached a sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one full academic year at the institution.
A communication major, Honeycutt was named CSC All-District earlier this season and garnered All-ACC Academic Team honors for the third consecutive season.
The honor caps off an award-filled season for Honeycutt. He earned First-Team All-America accolades from the American Baseball Coaches Association, College Baseball Foundation, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game and received second team honors from Baseball America and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Honeycutt becomes the 21st student-athlete and first baseball student-athlete in UNC history to be named First Team All-America and First Team Academic All-America, joining an esteemed list that includes Billy Cunningham, Eric Montross, Heather O'Reilly, Cindy Parlow, Charlie Scott, Sue Walsh and Tyler Zeller.
A native of Salisbury, N.C., Honeycutt hit a career-best .318 while setting school records for home runs (28) and runs (88) in 2024. He drove in a career-high 70 runs and collected 81 hits and 13 doubles. Honeycutt finished the season ranked third nationally in runs and seventh in home runs while leading the ACC in both categories.
He was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award, the top two honors in college baseball.
Honeycutt started all 176 career games played in center field the past three seasons, belting a program-record 65 home runs while becoming the first player among the Power 5 schools with more than 60 home runs and 70 stolen bases (76).
