Thomas Earns ACC Preseason Honors, Men’s Soccer Picked Third

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – North Carolina men's soccer defender Riley Thomas has been named to the 2024 ACC Preseason Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.
Thomas, an All-ACC Second Team member a season ago, appeared in 18 matches, earning the start 17 times last campaign. The Atlanta, Ga. product played the full 90 on 13 occasions a season ago, logging 1,551 minutes of play. Thomas helped Carolina to the fifth-best scoring defense in the nation and first in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2023.
As a team, Carolina was picked to finish third in the 2024 Preseason ACC Coaches Poll, receiving two first-place votes. Clemson was picked to finish first (193 – 12 first place), followed by Notre Dame (167) and the Tar Heels (156 – 2 first place).
The Tar Heels conclude the 2024 preseason slate this Friday, traveling to UNCW.
Carolina begins the regular season on Aug. 22, traveling to UAB. The regular season home opener is slated for Aug. 25 against Cal Baptist, the first of 10 home matches for the Tar Heels this season.
