Thomas Named ACC Co-Offensive Player Of The Week
August 27, 2024 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After netting three goals to help power North Carolina women's soccer to a 2-0 weekend at home, Olivia Thomas has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week. The ACC announced its weekly awards on Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first such honor of the sophomore's career, and the first weekly league honor for a Tar Heel this season. Thomas was also tabbed to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
A forward, Thomas recorded her first career brace in Carolina's 4-3 win over No. 16 Georgia on Aug. 22. Her goals came in quick succession, as she found the back of the net in the 61st minute before scoring again less than three minutes later.Â
Thomas followed that performance by giving the Tar Heels an insurance goal against Arizona on Aug. 25. She scored her third goal of the season in the 88th minute.
The Grosse Pointe, Michigan native leads the roster with eight points behind three goals and two assists in addition to her 14 shots on target. She also had two assists against Colorado on Aug. 18 for the first multi-point game of her career. Â
As a freshman in 2023, Thomas appeared in 10 matches and scored one goal in her first career start against Cal. She saw limited minutes after sustaining an injury in mid-September, making her red-hot start to her sophomore campaign all the more impressive.Â
Thomas and the Tar Heels return to action on Thursday, Aug. 29, for a 4 p.m. ET matchup with North Dakota at Dorrance Field. Tickets are available for purchase here.
