Vazquez Montaño Qualifies For Olympic 3M Diving Semifinals

SAINT-DENIS, France — UNC diver Aranza Vazquez Montaño qualified for the 3-meter springboard semifinal at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Wednesday.
Vazquez finished third among the 28 divers competing in the preliminary round with a score of 321.75.
Vazquez was in 12th place following her first dive but put up her best score in round two, a 69.75 on her forward 3 ½ somersaults, to jump into fourth place and never slipped beyond third place. She was second after four rotations but slipped back to third after Australia's Maddison Keeney scored an 81.60 on her final dive. It was the highest scoring of anyone on the day.
China's Chen Yiwen finished the day in first place with a score of 356.40, followed by Keeney in second with a score of 337.25. Defending world champion Chang Yani of China finished the day with a score of 308.75 in fourth place.
The top 18 advanced to the semifinal, which will be held at 4 a.m. ET Thursday. The 3-meter springboard final is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET Friday.
