Armstrong Pens Pro Contract With San Diego Wave

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Freshman sensation and national champion Trinity Armstrong has signed a professional contract with San Diego Wave in the National Women's Soccer League. She will forgo her remaining three years of college eligibility to join the professional ranks.Â
Armstrong put together one of the best rookie campaigns in Tar Heel history in 2024, quickly proving herself as one of the best center backs in the nation. Â
She was named All-America Second Team, All-Atlantic Region First Team, All-ACC First Team, All-ACC Freshman Team, TopDrawerSoccer Best XI Second Team, College Cup All-Tournament Team, ACC All-Tournament Team and earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 27.Â
Armstrong was the first UNC rookie to earn All-America, All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Freshman Team honors since Alessia Russo in 2017. She was also a nominee for U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year as the lone college player on the ballot.
The Frisco, Texas native was the hero in UNC's thrilling 2-1 win over No. 1 Duke in the ACC Tournament semifinals. She had an incredible tackle in the 11th minute and a clutch goal line clearance in the 71st minute. She then scored the game-winner off a header in the 81st minute for her first collegiate goal.
Also boasting a standout international resume with the U.S. Youth National Team, Armstrong led Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2024 FIFA U-17 World Cup. She played every minute of all six matches and helped the Stars and Stripes to three shutouts. She was also part of the U-17 squad that won the 2024 Concacaf U-17 Championship.

"She had incredible success this year at the collegiate level and on the international stage and we are so excited about her future in San Diego."
San Diego Wave finished the 2024 season at No. 10 in the NWSL standings.
