Carolina Handles Business Against Cardinals With 3-0 Win
October 12, 2025 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A rainy Sunday at Karen Shelton Stadium finished with a 3-0 win for Carolina field hockey over No. 19 Louisville to wrap up a big weekend of conference clashes for UNC.
Â
The Tar Heels (12-1, 5-1 ACC) dominated the game on both ends of the field, putting up 23 shots while not allowing one from the Cardinals until the fourth quarter. The result sealed a shutout weekend for Carolina against two ranked ACC foes and gave them their fourth blank of the season.
Â
A little misdirection got things going for the Heels. True freshman Isabel Boere received the ball at the top of the circle on a penalty corner and swept the ball to the far post where veteran Kara Heck was waiting to redirect it into the back of the net.
Â
The Dutch international wasn't done either. Head coach Erin Matson and her staff called on Boere once again for a second quarter penalty corner, this time it was her turn to score. A precise shot skimmed the Louisville keeper's pads on its way into the back of the net.
Â
Both newcomers have been big contributors to Carolina's attack this season. Heck now has four goals and four assists to her name while the defender Boere has the fourth most points on the team with 16 on six goals and four assists.
Â
The final piece of insurance came off the stick of Sanne Hak, who scored her fourth of the season on yet another penalty corner opportunity. More clever movement by the Tar Heels set up Hak with a clear path and she took advantage by finding the bottom right corner.
Â
Another road weekend awaits the Tar Heels as they prepare to travel to the Empire State for a pair of games against Syracuse and Cornell.
