Jones Reaches Quarterfinal, Doubles Teams Advance At ITA Regional

CARY, N.C.—Roan Jones advanced to the singles quarterfinals and freshmen Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer beat the nation's 11th-ranked doubles team in a big Saturday for North Carolina at the men's ITA Carolina Regional at the Cary Tennis Park.
Jones beat Jules Leroux of NC State in straight sets 6-2, 7-5 in Saturday's round of 16 singles match. With two more wins this weekend, Jones will qualify for the 2025 NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando.
Later on Saturday, Mayew and Schinnerer beat the weekend's top-seeded and the nation's 11th-ranked doubles team when they outlasted Wake Forest's Luca Pow and Kacper Szymokwiak, 8-6.
Elsewhere on Saturday's bracket in Cary, Mayew fell in the singles round of 16 to #100 Andrew Delgado of Wake Forest while Anthony Wright and Niels Ratiu won their singles consolation matches.
On the doubles side, Ratiu and Chris Xu and Nick Mangiapane and Logan Zapp joined Mayew and Schinnerer as winners in the round of 32. All three Tar Heel duos won their second matches on Saturday to advance to Sunday's doubles quarterfinals.
The two singles finalists and the doubles champion this weekend at the Carolina Regional will earn bids to the NCAA Individual Championships next month in Orlando.
