Sheils Donegan's 68 Leads UNC At Williams Cup

Tar Heel junior Niall Sheils Donegan shot a bogey-free, 4-under-par 68 and sits one shot off the lead after Sunday's first round in the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.
Carolina is in fourth place after posting a 2-under 286, 10 strokes behind Florida. The Gators shot 12-under 276 on the strength of a 68 by Luke Poulter and 69s by Zack Swanwick and Jack Turner.
Notre Dame, led by individual leader Jacob Modleski, is second at 5 under par, seven behind Florida. Texas is third at -4, Carolina is fourth at -2 and NC State is fifth at -1.
Modleski, the 2025 ACC champion, made eight birdies en route to a 5-under 67. He leads Sheils Donegan, Poulter and Texas' Daniel Bennett by one.
Sheils Donegan, playing in his third tournament as a Tar Heel, matched his best round of the season. He birdied a pair of holes on each side, including one on the 18th hole in front of a large group of teammates, fans and family.
UNC freshman Carson Bertagnole was 3 over par after six holes, but played the final dozen holes in 4 under with four birdies and eight pars. Bertagnole is tied for 16th after his round of 1-under 71. Sophomore Grant Roscich shot even-par 72.
The Tar Heels fielded two teams. The B group was led by Misha Golod (73), Sihan Sandhu (74) and Ethan Paschal (75).
