No. 25 Volleyball Sweeps Duke For Fourth Consecutive Time
October 4, 2025 | Volleyball
DURHAM, N.C. – No. 25 Carolina volleyball clinched an undefeated season against teams from North Carolina with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-23) sweep over Duke. It's the Tar Heels fourth consecutive sweep over the Blue Devils and the fifth consecutive win against them overall.
Â
The Tar Heels punched first, opening the first set with a 4-0 run. They would ride that lead all the way to the end behind four aces as Duke never managed to even tie the set back up. Duke managed to cut the UNC lead to just one but a 7-1 run widened the gap to 15-8. A separate 4-0 run pushed the lead to 21-11 as Carolina would go on to win 25-14.
Â
Duke opened set with a 4-3 lead but once UNC took a 5-4 lead, that was the first and only lead change of the set. The Blue Devils managed to tie it up a couple times but the Tar Heels always responded.
Â
Safi Hampton was named to the AVCA 2025 Player of the Year Watch List yesterday and showed why; in the second set she exploded for six kills on only eight swings to put UNC up 2-0.
Â
The third set was the Hampton show once again, and the Tar Heels needed all seven of her kills as Duke hung around and had a 20-19 lead late in the set. Kills from Hailey Pearce and Hampton gave the Tar Heels the lead back and they never looked back. The 4-0 run made it 24-21 and they'd go on to take the set 25-23 to clinch the sweep.
Â
Emily Bobbitt was massive on the serve; she had a career-high four aces which was half of the season-high eight aces the team had.
Â
The Tar Heels now sit at 4-0 in the ACC and winners of five in a row. It's the first 4-0 start in league play since 2016 when they started 11-0.
Â
UNC stays on the road for the next four matches. It heads to Clemson and Georgia Tech next weekend before heading to Boston College and Syracuse the following weekend.
