Bertagnole Birdies 2nd Playoff Hole To Win, UNC 2nd At Notre Dame

North Carolina freshman Carson Bertagnole dropped a 35-foot putt for birdie on the second playoff hole to win the individual title Tuesday at the Fighting Irish Classic at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course.
The Pinehurst native shot 67-64-73 for a total of 6-under 204. Bertagnole held a four-stroke lead after Monday's first two rounds, but Tennessee's Lance Simpson and Iowa's Maxwell Tjoa forced the extra holes by carding final rounds of 66 and 68, respectively.
Bertagnole is the 10th different individual to win medalist honors for head coach Andrew DiBitetto. It was the 21st different individual win for a Tar Heel under DiBitetto's direction as head coach.
UCLA rallied to win the team title. Carolina led the Bruins by three after 36 holes but the Bruins closed with a 1-over 281, the best team score of the final round.
UCLA took the title at 7-under 833. The Tar Heels were the only other team in the field to shoot below par, finishing at 4-under 836.
Host Notre Dame was third eight strokes behind the Tar Heels at 4 over, Louisville was fourth (+7) and Purdue was fifth in the 16-team field at (+9).
Carolina's Andrew Riley (66-69-73) tied for eighth at 2-under 208
Misha Golod, playing as an individual entry, shot 65-70 over the final two rounds to tie for 12th at 1-over 211.
Grant Roscich closed with a 2-under 68, the Tar Heels' best result of the final round.
Carolina returns to competition October 19-21 when it hosts the Williams Cup presented by STITCH Golf at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.
