Mayew & Schinnerer Advance To NCAA Doubles Round Of 16

ORLANDO — North Carolina's freshman duo of Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer won their first-round match on Wednesday in the NCAA Doubles Championship at the USTA National Campus, highlighting day two of the NCAA Championships for the Tar Heels.
Mayew and Schinnerer won their initial match in the doubles bracket, topping BYU's team of Adam Chodur and Otto Schreiner by a score of 6-1, 6-2. The Tar Heel team lost just three games while cruising to a win in just 55 minutes.
In other action on Wednesday, Tar Heel Roan Jones, ranked #38 in the ITA rankings, dropped his second-round match to #7 Ozan Baris from Michigan State, 6-2, 7-5. UCLA's eighth-ranked doubles team of Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels defeated Carolina's Chris Xu and Niels Ratiu in a tense, three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Mayew and Schinnerer advance to Thursday's doubles round of 16, where they will face South Carolina's 74th-ranked duo of Max Stenzer and Sean Daryabeigi in a match to start not before 2 p.m.
