Levy Victorious At 285 Pounds, 11 Tar Heels Place At Southeast Open

SALEM, Va. – Jacob Levy was victorious in the 285-pound freshman/sophomore division Sunday at the Southeast Open, pacing the Tar Heels to 11 podium finishes on the day.

The true freshman won five matches on the day, four of which were bonus-point victories, outscoring his opponents 26-1 with two additional falls.

Of the 11 Carolina wrestlers who placed on the day, three were making their Tar Heel debuts. In addition to Levy, true freshmen Matthew Botello (5th at 133) and Luke Sipes (3rd at 165) placed in the freshman/sophomore division.

Up next, the Tar Heels begin their dual portion of the 2025-26 campaign next Saturday, hosting Northern Colorado inside Carmichael Arena. Action between Carolina and the Bears gets underway at Noon.
