TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – No. 15 Carolina volleyball fell in four (25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 21-25) against Florida State on Friday night.
The first set was great for the Tar Heels. Led by Safi Hampton, they used a 3-0 run to gain a 17-16 lead and they never looked back. Hampton had six kills on 10 swings and no errors to power Carolina to a 25-23 win.
After that is when trouble started. The unforced errors buried the Tar Heels. They amassed 25 attacking errors and six service errors. Despite that, UNC was able to battle in the third and fourth sets.
Down 12-6, the Tar Heels went on a 7-1 run to cut the Seminoles lead to 14-13. Every time UNC cut the lead to one, FSU was able to push it back up to two. With FSU up 21-20, they went on to score four of the next five to take the set.
The fourth set was back and fourth with 15 total ties but the Tar Heels were never able to gain solid footing. Tied at 17-17, FSU grabbed the lead and never looked back, going on to win the set 25-21 to take the match.
UNC looks to rebound on Sunday with a faceoff with No. 14 Miami at 1 P.M. on ACCNX.
