Men’s Soccer Batters Notre Dame, Advances In ACC Tournament

SOUTH BEND, IND. – The University of North Carolina men's soccer team used goals from Nacho Abeal, Charlie Antonelius and Dan Klink to defeat Notre Dame 3-1 on Wednesday night. With the win, the Heels advanced to the ACC Tournament quarterfinals and will face top-seeded Virginia on Sunday at 4 p.m. in Charlottesville.
This is the 12th time the Tar Heels have reached the ACC Tournament quarterfinals under head coach Carlos Somoano.
Carolina improved to 9-4-4 on the season, while the Fighting Irish now sit at 8-6-4.

- 13' – ND's Will Schroeder earned a yellow after a series of fouls early in the match.
- 21' – Nacho Abeal scored his sixth of the season on some great combination play with Gabriel Bracken Serra and Bertil Rygaard Hansen.
- 33' – Andrew Cordes kept the Fighting Irish scoreless with a beautiful save on KK Baffour.
- 36' – Just two minutes after coming on, Charlie Antonelius took a feed from Dan Klink and placed one in the bottom left corner for the first goal of his career.
- 45' – Riley Berge picked up a yellow card.
- 64' – On an almost identical sequence as the first goal, Bertil Rygaard Hansen played in Nacho Abeal for an attempt on goal, but it was blocked.
- 69' – Dylan Kropp picked up a yellow card for a hard foul on KK Baffour.
- 70' – Dan Klink heads home for his fifth goal of the season on a glorious cross from Luca Nikolai.
- 84' – Notre Dame got one back despite a push in the box opening up the space for the Irish to head home.

- Immanuel Mathe returned to the starting lineup after missing the better part of the last three matches due to injury.
- Nacho Abeal scored his sixth goal of the season and the 17th of his career. Abeal and Gabriel Bracken Serra are now tied for the most career goals on the team.
- Gabriel Bracken Serra tallied his fourth assist of the season and the 17th of his career.
- Bertil Rygaard Hansen notched his third assist of the season and the fifth of his career.
- Charlie Antonelius scored the first goal of his collegiate career.
- Dan Klink picked up his first collegiate assist to go along with his four goals on the season.
- Dan Klink scored the fifth goal of his career. Every goal has been with his head.
- Luca Nikolai picked up his sixth assist of the season and the 12th of his career.
