No. 5 Stanford Tops No. 15 Volleyball, 3-0

STANFORD, CALIF. – No. 15 Carolina volleyball fell at the hands of No. 5 Stanford on Friday night 3-0 (22-25, 17-25, 16-25). This marks the first time all season that UNC has lost back to back matches and was swept.

The first set was back and forth the entire time as the two teams alternated points from 7-7 until UNC took a 14-13 lead. The Tar Heels extended that to 21-17 before a 4-0 Stanford run tied things back up. Stanford would close the set on a 8-1 run to take it.

The second set, Stanford raced out to a 2-7 lead but a 6-1 Tar Heel run tied it at 8-8 before UNC managed to take a 12-10 lead a few points later. After that Stanford closed on a 15-5 run to take the second set.

In the third UNC took a brief 2-1 lead but Stanford regained the lead at 3-2 and never relinquished it to take the match.

Despite the loss, Chelsea Thorpe shined with 14 kills and a .379 hitting percentage. The Tar Heels now turn their attention to a Sunday match with Cal on ACCNX at 4 P.M. ET.
