December 1, 2025 | Volleyball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Safi Hampton was named First Team All-ACC, and Chelsea Thorpe and Maddy May were named Second Team All-ACC, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Â
This is the first such honor in all three of their careers.
Hampton earns the honor after being named to the AVCA Player Of The Year Watchlist. Hampton leads the team in points (416.5), points per set (3.89), kills (377) and kills per set (3.252). Hampton was also named ACC Offensive Player of the Week after sweeping Duke in the beginning of October. Hampton totaled 28 kills on a .509 hitting percentage with only one error. Her 16-kill, zero-error performance against Duke saw her hit a career-best .615 guiding the Tar Heels to a sweep on the road.
May is looking to close out her storied Tar Heel career with a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. May has been the definition of reliable for the team, playing in every single set (438) of every single match (116) over her four-year career. May currently sits third all-time in program history with 1,590 digs.
Thorpe has been a reliable, steady presence on the defensive front as she produced career highs in digs (73), blocks (83) and points (343). On top of that she added 299 kills.
Â
Hampton is the first Tar Heel to land on the first team since Mabrey Shaffmaster in 2023. Three All-ACC honorees are the most for Carolina in a season since 2021, when Shaffmaster, Kaya Merkler and current assistant coach Nia Parker-Robinson were all named to the second team.
Â
UNC now focuses on the NCAA Tournament, facing UTEP on Thursday in Madison, Wis.
