Humphrey, Walker-Welch Recognized As ACC Players Of The Week
February 18, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two members of the North Carolina women's lacrosse team have been recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference for their standout performances in the Tar Heels' ranked win at Florida on Saturday, as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Ashley Humphrey was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week and Brooklyn Walker-Welch was chosen as the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Both players are first-time recipients of an ACC weekly honor.
This is the second straight week the Tar Heels have had an ACC Player of the Week as Sam Forrest won the defensive praise last week. Just two weeks into the season, UNC's three honorees lead the conference.
Humphrey paced then-No. 4 Carolina's offense in its big 14-9 win at No. 5 Florida. The graduate attacker finished with a game-leading nine points behind three goals and a game-high six assists. It was her second hat trick of the season, and she ranks second in the ACC and seventh in the NCAA with nine assists.
Additionally, Humphrey's nine points are the most she has recorded as a Tar Heel while her six assists matched her best while at UNC. The Darien, Conn. native has a team-leading nine assists and 15 points on the young season.
Walker-Welch was a force on both ends of the field in Gainesville. The defender finished the game with three caused turnovers, two ground balls and one goal on one shot. The redshirt-junior's three caused turnovers are a season's best, and her two ground balls matched her season high for the second game in a row.
Her goal, which was in the first quarter, was the second of her career and in back-to-back weeks. The Courtice, Ontario product anchored UNC's defense which did not concede more than three goals per quarter and did not allow more than a two-goal run by the Gators.
Humphrey, Walker-Welch and the second-ranked Tar Heels return to Dorrance Field on Saturday, Feb. 22, for a big ACC matchup against No. 4 Syracuse. First draw is set for noon ET and tickets are available for purchase here.
