Walker-Welch, White Appear On Tewaaraton Award Watch List
February 6, 2025 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina women's lacrosse standouts Brooklyn Walker-Welch and Marissa White have been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, as announced by the organization on Thursday before the start of the 2025 season.Â
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Walker-Welch and White, who were both named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Watch List, are eager to return to the field this spring after being sidelined by injury a season ago.Â
Regarded as one of the best defenders in the country, Walker-Welch is set to begin her redshirt-junior campaign this year. She garnered ILWomen First Team All-America, All-South Region First Team and All-ACC First Team accolades as a sophomore in 2023 after anchoring UNC's defense which limited opponents to an ACC-leading 8.4 goals per game in addition to recording 29 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
White, who enters her redshirt-sophomore season, ended her freshman campaign in 2023 with a team-best 46 goals, also adding three assists for 49 points. The attacker had 14 multi-point games, was picked to the ACC All-Freshman Team and earned Honorable Mention All-America honors by USA Lacrosse Magazine.Â
Additionally, Walker-Welch (First Team) and White (Honorable Mention) were named Preseason All-America by USA Lacrosse and checked in at No. 4 and No. 30, respectively, on ILWomen's Top 50 Players in 2025 rankings. Walker-Welch was also named to the ILWomen Preseason All-America First Team.Â
The Tar Heels embark on their 2025 campaign on Friday, Feb. 7, against James Madison at 5 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field. The complete schedule can be found here.
