Women's Golf Wins Yale Invitational, Shatters UNC Record
March 11, 2025 | Women's Golf
Helen Yeung eagled her last hole to shoot a final-round 66 and Ing Iadpluem finished second at 11 under par to lead the University of North Carolina women's golf team to a record-shattering victory Tuesday in the Yale Invitational West at PGA West's Norman Course.
Carolina shot 31-under-par 833, breaking the UNC record for most shots below par for 54 holes by seven strokes. The 833 strokes are the second fewest in Carolina history.
The win is the second of the season for the Tar Heels and the sixth in Aimee Neff's four seasons as head coach. Carolina won the Cavalier Regional Preview in Charlottesville in September.
The previous record for most strokes below par was 26 under in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., in 2016-17; the record for fewest strokes in a 54-hole tournament is 830 in the win in Charlottesville.
Iadpluem shot 67-67-71 for an 11-under 205, one stroke behind Kansas' Lauren Clark, who won the individual title by shooting 66 today.
Iadpluem's second-place finish, her 205 stroke total and score to par (-11) are all personal collegiate bests. Both the 205 strokes and 11 under par equal the fourth best in a tournament in UNC history. The sophomore from Thailand made 14 birdies and just three bogeys in 54 holes.
Yeung, a freshman from Clarksville, Md., made eight birdies today (the most by a Tar Heel in a round this season) in addition to eagleing the 440-yard, par-5 second hole, to shoot 6-under 66. She shot 72-70-66 for 8-under 208 to place fourth. The 66 ties the seventh-best round ever by a Tar Heel.
Reagan Southerland, a sophomore from Atlanta, shot 72-68-69 to place fifth at 7-under 209. It was the first time she shot consecutive rounds in the 60s and was her best finish, total strokes and score to par as a Tar Heel.
Megan Streicher (70-69-74) tied for 10th at 3-under 213 and Marie Prats-Rigual (71-70-73) tied for 13th at 2-under 214.
In the second round on Monday, Carolina broke the school record shooting 14 under par. Its 273 strokes were the second-fewest in a round in UNC history. The Tar Heels shot 13-under 271 in the second round in the fall in winning the Cavalier Regional Preview.
Clark led Kansas to second place, 11 shots behind the Tar Heels at 20-under 844. Princeton (3 under par), Virginia Tech (even par) and Vanderbilt (2 over) rounded out the top five in the 12-team field.
