10th-Ranked Women's Golf Tees Off In Tennessee
March 28, 2025 | Women's Golf
Carolina's 10th-ranked women's golf team, coming off of its best performance to par in program history, begins play today in the Chattanooga Classic at the Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.
The Chattanooga Classic follows the Yale Invitational West, where the Tar Heels shot a resounding 31-under-par 833, which broke the team record to par by five shots. Carolina won the event by 11 strokes over Kansas and was just one of three teams to finish under par for the tournament, held at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif.
It was UNC's second victory of the season, after having set the team's all-time low stroke record in a victory at the Cavalier Regional Preview in September.
This is the Tar Heels' first appearance in in the Chattanooga Classic.
"We're excited to keep the momentum going," says head coach Aimee Neff. "The team has been working hard, and our success at the Yale Invitational West gave us confidence in our preparation. Our focus is on staying disciplined with our game plans, adapting quickly to the new course, and maintaining the competitive mindset that has brought us success. Every tournament presents a fresh challenge, but our goal remains the same to execute at a high level and keep building on our progress."
Ing Iadpluem, fresh off a career-best 11-under-par second-place finish at Yale, leads the Tar Heels into the event. Iadpleum has finished in the top five of Carolina's last two tournaments and has finished under par in each event of the spring.
This will be junior Megan Streicher's last event before heading to Augusta as UNC's first player to compete in the Augusta National Women's Amateur. The event begins on April 2nd, with the first two rounds contested at Champions Retreat Golf Club and the top 30 making the cut for the final day at Augusta National Golf Club.
Freshman Helen Yeung, who shot a season-low 66 in the final round at the Yale Invitational West, is seeking her second-straight top-five performance and her fifth top 10 of the season.
Reagan Southerland, another Tar Heel starter, had a career-best fifth place finish in California.
Rounding out the starting lineup is Marie Prats-Rigual, who joined the Tar Heels at the beginning of the spring semester. Prats-Rigual is making her second start for the team after finishing tied for 13th at two-under in her first event counting for the team at the Yale Invitational West.
Freshman Katie Vu will be competing in the event as an individual.
UNC will be joined in the field by No. 13 Virginia, No. 22 Duke, No. 27 Florida and 12 other programs. Carolina begins play at 10:20 a.m. on the first tee.
