Kovacs Earns Eight Wins On Day Three Of Fencing NCAAs

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Sophia Kovacs wrapped up the first day of the National Championships in ninth with eight wins.

Round 1
Kovacs opened her first round of pool play going undefeated against fencers from California. The senior saberist bested a pair of Stanford University fencers and a fencer from the University of California San Diego.

Round 2
Kovacs battled in the second pool taking down Alexandra Lee, an All-American from Princeton and who is currently in third after day one. She also fenced against Magda Skarbonkiewicz, an 2024 Olympian from Notre Dame.

Round 3
Kovacs ended day one strong, winning four bouts in her final round of the day, beating four fencers from the Ivy Leagues, including two from Harvard and one from Yale and Brown.

After the men's championship finished and the first three rounds of the women's event wrapped up Carolina is in eleventh as a team.

Kovacs wraps up her time tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. EST in women's sabre.
