No. 4 Women's Tennis Outlasts No. 10 Wolfpack, 4-3, In Thriller

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.— The fourth-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team won its seventh match in a row, dropping No. 10 NC State, 4-3, in Atlantic Coast Conference play on Sunday at the Chewning Tennis Center.
Head coach Brian Kalbas secured his 785th all-time victory, taking down the local rival Wolfpack. Carolina improved to 15-3 and remained undefeated at home and in conference play.
The Tar Heels are now 58-6 against the Wolfpack all-time and 25-3 in the Kalbas era. Kalbas improves to 157-68 against ACC competition over his time in Chapel Hill.
Carolina bounced back after dropping the doubles point, winning three straight points before NC State responded with two back-to-back three-set victories, tying the match.
All attention shifted to court four as Carolina's winning streak was put on the line against the rivals in the middle of the final set, with UNC up 3-2 in the third between Tatum Evans and Gabriella Broadfoot in the clinching match.
Evans extended her lead to two as she hit the ball over the top of the net, skimming the top before dropping for the point. Broadfoot battled back to pull within one. The final set ended as the return on Evans' serve went long.
