Eight Run Seventh Powers Softball Past UNCG 15-5

UNCG used a first inning home run to take a 1-0 lead right off the bat. The Tar Heels slapped the ball around in the third inning and behind a Kat Rodriguez single and a Carlie Myrtle double, Carolina took a 3-1 lead.
The Spartans hit a two run homer to regain the lead in the bottom half of the third inning.
After scoring another in the fourth, UNC saw itself down two. Then the bats got busy. Rodriguez sent one out to center field making it 4-3. Two batters later Myrtle sent one way out for her 13th of the season tying things up in the fifth.
Kat Rodriguez continued her massive day bringing in two more in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead. After Myrtle was intentionally walked to load the bases, Kiannah Pierce used a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-4 ball game.
Entering tonight, UNC had scored five runs all season in the seventh inning. Then tonight happened. The first nine batters for the Tar Heels reached base and they put an eight spot up. Lexie Roberts plated the first two runs, then Rodriguez sent two more to the plate for RBIs five and six on the night. Next it was Sanaa Thompson's turn as she sent two runners home. After Myrtle walked, Pierce drove in another run with a double. A Raeghan Carlson sacrifice fly was the first out of the inning but it still drove a run in. The inning saw 12 hitters come to the plate and took 25 minutes from start to finish.
After today, Kat Rodriguez moved into a tie for seventh in program history for RBI in a single season with 52.
Britton Rogers shut things down in the seventh to clinch the win for Carolina who now turns its focus to a road trip to Syracuse.
