Men's Tennis Beats Notre Dame, 4-3, For Second Road Win In A Row

NOTRE DAME, IND.—Diego Jarry won the clincher in three sets as North Carolina's men's tennis team completed a 2-0 road weekend with a 4-3 win at Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels trailed, 3-1, in the match before storming back to win the final three singles decisions of the day to grab the victory.

The Fighting Irish won the doubles point to start the day, picking up wins at No. 3 over Patrick Schoen and Nick Mangiapane and at No. 1 over Chris Xu and Vladislav Melnic. Notre Dame took a 2-0 lead when Constantinos Djakouris lost his match at No. 1 singles by retirement while trailing, 3-0, in the second set.

Xu won his match at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, to put Carolina on the scoreboard, only to see Kyran Magimay win at No. 6 over Mangiapane for a 3-1 Irish advantage.

Melnic (No. 2), Anthony Wright (No. 4) and Jarry (No. 5) won their singles matches in succession to give the Tar Heels their second win in a row.

Carolina improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the victory. Notre Dame fell to 10-6, 0-4 ACC.

The Tar Heels will return to the road next weekend with matches at Georgia Tech and Clemson.
