Men's Golf No. 2 Seed At ACC Championship
April 23, 2025 | Men's Golf
The 2025 ACC Men's Golf Championship begins Thursday, April 24, at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.
Â
Carolina is the defending champion and the second-highest seed in the field. The Tar Heels won the 2024 ACC Championship at the Charlotte Country Club, finishing first after 54 holes of stroke play and defeating Wake Forest and Florida State in match play for their first league title since 2006.
Â
The seeds and first-round pairings for the 2025 ACC Championship are based on last week's NCAA Scoreboard/Clippd rankings.
Â
Florida State (ranked No. 9) is the top seed followed by UNC (No. 10), Virginia (No. 12), Duke (No. 19), Louisville (No. 24), Georgia Tech (No. 26), SMU (No. 31), Notre Dame (No. 38), Stanford (No. 42), Wake Forest (No. 46), Clemson (No. 55), Cal (No. 56), NC State (No. 63), Boston College (No. 118) and Virginia Tech (No. 194).
Â
Carolina is coming off a team and individual win April 12-13 in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Club. It was the Tar Heels' second team title of the season and the 24th in Andrew DiBitetto's eight seasons as head coach.
Â
Senior David Ford was the medalist at 7-under-par 203. It was Ford's fifth win of the season, a UNC record, and he tied Dustin Bray for the all-time record for victories by a Tar Heel with seven.
Â
Ford is ranked No. 1 in the country and is No. 1 in the PGA TOUR University standings. His scoring average of 68.50 is on pace to set the UNC single-season record, which is currently 69.68 by Peter Fountain in 2020-21, the year Fountain won the ACC individual championship.
Â
Ford is joined in the lineup this week by senior Maxwell Ford, junior Keaton Vo and freshmen Sihan Sandhu and Grant Roscich. Another freshman, Ethan Paschal, is the alternate.
Â
Maxwell Ford tied for 12th in the stroke play portion of the 2024 ACC Championship and delivered the winning point in the anchor match in the 3-2 win over Wake Forest in the semifinals.
Â
David Ford defeated the Seminoles' Luke Clanton in Carolina's 3-1 victory in the finals.
Â
The Tar Heels have finished first in stroke play (which determines which teams advance to match play and the seed order in match play) in three of the last four ACC Championships.
Â
Carolina shot 26-under 814 in 2021 in Milton, Ga., 35-under 829 in 2022 in Panama City Beach, Fla., and 10-under 842 in 2024 in Charlotte.
Â
The 2025 ACC Championships schedule is as follows:
Thursday, April 24: First Round Stroke Play
Friday, April 25: Second Round Stroke Play
Saturday, April 26: Third Round Stroke Play
Â
(top eight teams after 54 holes of stroke play advance to match play)
