STANFORD, CALIF.—Ninth-ranked Stanford defeated the No. 47-ranked North Carolina's men's tennis team, 4-0, on Friday evening at the Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion in the schools' first meeting as Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
The Cardinal won the doubles point to start the match. Alex Razeghi and Max Basing defeated Dennis Perumov and Nick Mangiapane, 6-1, at the No. 3 slot to begin the day's decisions. After Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera beat Diego Jarry and Anthony Wright, 7-5, at No. 2, Stanford had a 1-0 advantage.
The Cardinal got wins at No. 6 singles over Perumov, No. 1 over a hobbled Vladislav Melnic and No. 3 over Wright to take the decision. Melnic put in a gutty performance, completing his match despite appearing to turn his ankle in the first set.
