May 21, 2025 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's soccer saw three Tar Heels called-up for training camp and a trip to Germany with the U-23 squad, U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday. Defender Evelyn Shores, midfielder Sam Meza and forward Maddie Dahlien were all chosen to travel to Germany for a training camp and two matches versus the German U-23 team. Shores is the only current collegiate on the roster, while Meza is one of five overage players competing with the group.
Â
The U.S. team will be in Germany from May 26-June 3 and will play its German counterparts twice, on May 30 and June 2 at stadiums outside of Stuttgart.
Â
Shores, a midfielder for UNC, returned from injury late last season to help the Tar Heels on their run to the national title. She played in the final 10 games of the season and logged a season-high 56 minutes against Santa Clara in the NCAA Second Round.
Â
Meza is currently part of the Seattle Reign's project and has made an impact in the midfield during her second season with the club. She's played in nine matches this season, starting seven, after spending her inaugural season on loan with Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League. At UNC, Meza was a four-time All-ACC honoree who started 71 games over her career.
Â
Dahlien is in her first season with Seattle Reign and has started the first nine games. She's scored two goals so far this season, including the game winner against Racing Louisville last weekend. Dahlien was a member of UNC's national title team last season, earning third-team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament team honors.
